DSC Still Life and Bring & Show social
March 3rd 2017, Grange Community Hall
Some pictures from the first DSC Bring and Show Social which was arranged to allow members to show their work to fellow members. We took advantage of the empty main hall for the display, enabling the still life to operate freely in the small room. Wine together with a light buffet animated the evening from half time. The work on display was a combination of life drawing class work, sketchbooks, canvases and framed works. Sketchbooks are fascinating; they say far more about the artist than any exhibition piece - diaries almost - and without shows like this we would never see them. The committee would like to thank all those who contributed, whether through the work on display, the excellent buffet or simply their cheerful presence. It was a very pleasant evening.
Trophy Exhibition 2016
Some 90 works competed for the Trophy, presented at their best in these superb surroundings, with the judging carried out by well-known artist Rosemary Mills. Rosemary chose two joint winners, Roger Bliss for his delightful garden scene and Peter Valentine for his stunning portrait submission. There were four Highly Recommended artists, Jane Smith, Julie Marshall, Magdalena Aron and Leslie Griggs. On Friday afternoon the Exhibition was declared open by the Mayor of Derby, Linda Winters. Chairman Joe Read introduced the mayor and after a tour of the exhibition Linda presented the Trophy and Certificates.
